Once again, it’s Friday night, and I am spending this lovely evening (and it absolutely is a lovely evening) with my good friends, The Penguins. It’s hard to see in the pictures, but the most recent addition to this beautiful Arctic scape is sitting on an egg. Man is he taking good care of that egg, making sure it doesn’t get cold through the Winter. Penguin fact of the week: Male penguins don’t eat ALL WINTER LONG! Their sole reason for being throughout the frigid months is to take care of the egg and make sure it doesn’t get too cold. They do this while the females swim around eating as much fish, krill, and other various sea creatures as they can. I’m glad I’m not a male penguin.

I couldn’t wait to work on my penguin book today. I was doing everything I possibly could to avoid the most boring reading ever that I have to do for class so I did some more work on the tunnel book. I still have a ways to go, but here’s what is done so far. There are several different frames which will stack on top of each other. They’ll be connected on the side accordion style (FYI- I just learned how to spell that word. I thought it was accordian) so the viewer will pull the front frame up and it will become 3 dimensional. The baby chick might get remade so it doesn’t look like it was made by a 6 year old.
It’s not even 7 o’clock on Friday night and I’m ready for bed. Wow, I’m so cool. Actually, I’m enjoying this much needed night of doing nothing (sorry friends, that I bailed on you). I’ve spent the last little while working on this project for the class that I’m taking. We have to make a tunnel book with the main subject being a bird of our choice. From the book, people need to be able to identify 10 facts about the bird. The bird I chose is a penguin….for several reasons. I love black and I think the Arctic is really cool and pretty. Penguins are pretty amazing creatures. Did you know that they drink salt water? Their bodies have a way of separating the salt out and storing it in a special gland. When that gland is full, they bang their beak against a rock to empty it. Weird, but cool! I don’t have any glue at my house right now. So, what you see right now is just the beginning stage of my tunnel book……and just a small section of it. The penguin is not finished, but I like him so far. He’s going to have a little penguin chick with him when I’m done.
